same components that we are having installed in our locally built systems.
After Sales
Service and Support:
With a discount
retailer or mail order house, you have a two level service plan
usually. Even under warrantee once sold, the system usually has to be
repaired or serviced by the system manufacturer at one of their
authorized service centers. Generally this means that you have to box
it up and ship it to the service center. At best if you need on-site
service you will need to first call and get it authorized and then
scheduled with the local on-site service company. It is not uncommon
to wait 2 or more days before the on-site firm can make it to your
location. Then once the problem is diagnosed, the bad part if any
will most likely have to be ordered and a return trip scheduled for
installation. This may be ok for home systems or other non-critical
systems, but for business mission critical systems this can lead to
costly delays and expense that will wipe out any cost savings from
the mail-order or discount store purchase.
Discount
Pricing and Local Service:
So what is the
best approach? With ABCon

thru Dell and you will have to use their service contractors, but

to first analyze the problem and determine what the best and quickest
way to resolve it may be. We can even place the call for service
directly with Dell and work with their service techs to ensure
that you are back up and running in the quickest possible time. The
time saved by the customer will generally more than pay for our involvement.
When it pays to
buy locally:
So when does it
pay to buy your system locally? When you need delivery and
installation on a desktop or min-tower PC within 2 to 3 business
days. When you can not wait days for service and parts to be
scheduled on repairs. When you can't afford to send your system to
the nearest repair depot which usually means 2 to 3 weeks for repair
and turn around. Even then, you may need someone to properly pack,
unpack and re-integrate your system back into your current
operations. The loss of the use of a single computer can often amount
to hundreds of dollars per day in lost revenue or downtime. It just
doesn't pay in the long run for a company to risk these losses by
buying discount or mail-order unless the system is not really
essential to their operations or unless they have in-house staff to
handle the support service required.
What about
warrantees on locally
purchased systems?
